Trying to put my old CVA Mountain Rifle back together. Figure I might as well be shooting it while I save for parts for the Southern Mountain. I have lost the front sight, before or after the move, I have no clue. This afternoon I tried making a new sight. ;D Actually made 3 I had no 1/16" material to fit the dovetail. I did have 3/16" so used that. 1st I got too narrow by the time it fit the dovetail. 2nd, I used some .032 brass I had for a blade and i'ts too thin. 3rd I got to fit the dovetail and then took a chainsaw file and cut a 1/4 rounded profile of the top 1/8th inch. It looks pretty good for a novices atempt. I do have some .080 scrap brass I could make a blade from. What would you reccomend?

As long as it is stiff enough to hold up to being bumped once in a while and there is a bit of light on each side of the front sight when it is centered in the notch of the rear sight any width you can use is good. Most are about 3/32" to begin with but a lot of them get filed down a bit.

I got to looking in TOW catalog. They had a simple blade Taget site called a California Site. It was .082 wide so I made a blade from the .080 Brass and soldered it into the base I had made. If it does not work well, it's back to the drawing board. But will try this one right or wrong.
