I think for T/M's and me it was a privlige to save this triffic peace of history, May not know a lot about it's early day's but know enouff to know a Kit Carson gun and it would be compatable just this one was not owened as far as we know by anyone of fameous!! The trigger & lock on this gun is about as good as good gets at one time it was a real fine weapon for shure, and just for me a lucky chance to own a true peice of American pioneer & german history and I'm thinking pretty rare one at that!! Sooo I am hopeing for one deer with it and then I too will mostly let it rest but better peserved than the last 100 years or so, perhapps now someone 100 years from now can shoot it as well.

Ok today I finaly got out to shot the??? well I now think Shootzen? as I'm now shure that 153 years ago this gun was a tack driver!! I put up a 100yd Muzzelloading rifle target at 25yds and shot a 10, 10 ,9 ,6,7,7 and last was out of rings this is no wipeing after each shot just load & shot so this is showing it gets worse as it was fowling [expeted] This was useing a 6:00 hold on the bottom of the all black circle. So the 1st 3were from 1-3/4 in to 2-1/2 in high I'm shure that I and T'M's did not mess with the old sighting at all. I used the thickest patching I had and needed thicker with .490 balls so need thicker paching or a little biger ball. at anyrate I know from hear I can improve yet so allso know I will use it for deer hunting this fall, I truely have my doughts that this gun has ever ben shot cence the 1880's so this has ben a thrill for me.

The first one is what counts, that 10,10,9 would be three dead deer at any normal range. It ought to do pretty darned good after you get to playing with the ball size and patches. Pretty good for a rifle that has been idle for well over 100 years....

DD smelled the Kapusta and called me up to see if I could bring some over and he would allso cook. Normaly this would mean a match too. but he was in a fishing mood this time. [he din't say so but I think the swelling in his wrist from the ATV wreck that he was not about to be match shooting with me] lol Must have be sore cause it was to trap with .410's & he din't even shoot the jeager.

I went to crofton tonight looking for .495's for the German rifle No luck but Doc. did have a .498 LEE Mold so I brought it home and am hopeing it will be fine but not shue till it's tried. All I know now is 490 with the thickest patching I could find was way to louse. Told Doc about my target with the 490"s and he said that that does leave creadence to the theroy the old timers shot them much loser than today. Guess I had not hear that theroy before?

It is looking like I found a match now, Did not shoot at any paper cause the wind is crazy hear today but Ball and Patch are feeling about right now and can hit a 5inch post at 35 yds that hangs from wire from a cloths line pole. So in the german 1854 rifle I will be shooting hand cast balls in .498 from now on
