Way to go Bounce. Man I really like them German (Hunters) Jaegers. They are sweet man. Does the one you are gettin' have a sliding wood patchbox on the butt-stock. I've been eye-ballin' the one that Track Of The Wolf offers in the kit. It's not original like the one your talkin' about, but still a sweet piece. I'm thinkin' on either a .54 or .62 cal. Can't wait to hear how she handles a ball going down range for ya. www.trackofthewolf.com/categories/partList.aspx?catID=13&subID=77&styleID=298

She is home in my hot fat hands now sj it's a very plain jaeger 30" barrel .54 cal or real close to that, no patch box, large pretty normal trigger gaurd for set trigers, back action wich seams to work like it should. Not much niple left on top so it may be a bugger to remove, cheek rest on left side of stock with checkerd grip, overall linth 45&3/4" linth of pull 14&1/4" Stock is fasten with 2 wedges and a pin inbetween them. will have to waite on the inside yet to see what all I find in the bore. On top of barrel flat is M R O S ? L ? STUITGART this may change some as I'm not sure all the letters that I did print the TUIT are real ify allso? anyway now the fun begins to figure everything out?? I'm really quite thrilled over this one...smiles

Most likely Bounce, the city where your gun was made is "Stuttgart', home of Porsche and the original Mercedes Benz plant.

Here is a link to a book on Jaeger Rifles Bounce.
There is also a "Contact Us" on this webpage for George Shumway. it might be worth sending him an e-mail, he may be able to shed some light on your guns history.

The gun is in a very dark finish could allmost pass as a black gun today lol stock ends 2-1/2' befor the end of barrel. had a sling swivel in the butt stock at one time, now just a hole. has two thimbles and perhapps the origanal ram rod? this one is old anyway! the story on this gun was this, the guy that owned it is I belive in his 70's as a young man he worked for a Nebraska sand hills rancher who was very old as his wife allso and no children. a few years affter leaving them the last one died and he was notifyed that he had an inheritence, some of his inheritence was all the ranch guns. the Jaeger that I now have was one of them. Now for a little speculation of my own. I bet this gun would have sold well at St. Lewis in the 1840s to 1860s to the imigrents as if you could not find a Hocken this one would have looked like a good substute to one!!!

Sounds like the gun has a pretty interesting history... The missing part is how it got from Stuttgart to St. Louie, or wherever it started west from...Too bad it couldn't talk, it would sure be an interesting story.

I've done about all I wish to do to it now before it go's to the "compident gun smith" Fushed out a pound of rust from the barrel today and tryed to blow through the nippel with 120 LBS of air [no luck] but I do have the ram rod reaching all most to the nippel at the first try it was nearly a inch and haff away. It is well soaked in GIBBS, I learnd a few years ago if you spray a old & rusty bolt with GIBBS even the very worst in 7 days all the rusted theads will be moist and loose and their is no worry that my "compident gun smith" will put a wrench to it that soon.

You ought to see the jeager we have here at the store bounce. It has a stock that is totally carved from the buttplate to the muzzle. Even has a round patch box a lot like the Hawken patch boxes except that its all engraved. What makes it differant is the fact that it has a back action lock that it too is engraved and very handsome on this gun. BUT, if you hold it out away from you and just look at the silouette it looks just like a late Hawken in its outline and the thickness of the stock where its needed. I have an Idea that your gun even though less ornate is probably shaped pretty close to this one.

High German costs in the neighborhood of about $5000. I don't know what low German is worth. Personally I wouldn't of paid that much for the High German but I didn't do the buying. I was thinking more in the neighborhood of about $3000 for the High. This one has a bore that looks like it was just done. Put it this way, its awsome.

There you go Bounce. The only one you really have to please is yourself. After that the rest is icing on the cake.
