I built a percussion cap rifle to use in a muzzle loading season in SD. I have also used it in Nebraska along the Platte. Now I would use it when the opportunity arises. However SD has the muzzle load season at the same time as a rifle season in another area. So I have not gone muzzle loading for a while. I have empathy for those who live in states where a person is limited to shotguns or anything such as that. And in SD we can only use cross bows if we are handicapped and can prove the need for cross bows. I tried deer hunting with a long bow. I lost enough arrows to realize killing deer with a stick was beyond my abilities. I admit to shooting patched round ball and the heavier slugs (minis). I have killed more deer with the patched round ball (.54) than minis. When sabbots came out, I thought (and still do) that I would never use one.
I guess that if someone feels that they have limited abilities they should be able to use something more sophisticated. I am not worried about my ability to hunt along side someone with a better gun. The biggest problem I see regarding hunting no matter where I have been, seems to be getting a decent place to hunt. I have been lucky in a few states and unlucky in others. I just wish that we will always have places to hunt and if it takes a special season to get away from the maddening crowd so be it.
I would move to another state if I had to, to get better hunting. I would move to a different country if I had to, to get better hunting. Luckily I am satisfied with hunting in SD. I have experienced the maddening crowd in Utah. I have heard about the terrible hunting conditions in other states. Muzzle loading is fun, but for me it is a season I have used to get away from the crowds. Or to get to a place where I don't have to worry too much about the next bloke thinking I would make good target practice. Here is to happy hunting grounds for each of you no matter what you prefer to use.

I understand that missouri is going back to a "seperate tag" rifle / muzzleloader season like they used to.
I do not know all the details yet - I need to try to find the magazine it was in again. Basicly if you rifle hunt with a rifle, your tag is no good during muzzleloader season - you'll have to buy another one. I'm hoping we'll have to choose which tag we want our "any deer" to be. I can't imagine the state allowing two anterled tags for everyone (especially when the entire state is pushing for 4points on a side) And there are a ton of doe tags that will probably be available
I'm hoping it keeps the muzzleloader hunters down a little bit. It's still not like it used to be though

Hmm...that's the last time I listen to my dad. (I keep on saying that)
Turns out the seperate missouri season is a rumer that has public support (well, a meeting the public was invited to).
