Well, effective July 1st we can now hunt on Sundays in Virginia. So far, for some stupid reason, our general assembly only made it legal on private lands. At least for my part, I'll take what we can get for now in hopes that they will make it legal across the board next time.

I hope they do, Dovehunter. Since many hunters work Monday through Friday, keeping them from hunting on half the days they have a chance to always seemed stupid to me. At one time NY state had the same law, but they got rid of it years ago.

Yeah, I think it's time to allow sunday hunting.
I can tell you this though --- if they allow sunday hunting, game quantity and quality will go down when you add that extra day that people are off.

Believe it or not, our Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries has supported and lobbied for Sunday hunting for years. In view of that they at least must not feel that game will be depleted because of the extra day. They wanted to allow it without any restrictions at all. It's about time the stupid general assembly started listening to the wildlife professionals.
Surprisingly one of the biggest opponents of Sunday hunting was some organization of dog hunters. Year after year they would oppose it by lobbying their representatives. Like I have been saying for years: if you don't want to hunt on Sunday then don't, but don't tell me that I shouldn't!

You have people who can not take off work during the week and then they feel like it's not worth the hassle for hunting 1 or 2 Saturdays a year. So they just stay home instead.

"I can tell you this though --- if they allow sunday hunting, game quantity and quality will go down..... " That has not proved out in NY state- in fact, if anything, the opposite.
