I watched the 1st episode last nite and it was pretty good. However they showed 1st World War Germans using SMLEs, Americans using SMLES, and some British soldiers using Springfields. They did show Mussolini, as a sniper, using a Carcano. You would think that the History Channel could have done a little better with the authenticity of the weaponry. Of course, I guess probably 90% of their viewing audience wouldn't notice things like this.

I watched a little of it, I didn't realize it was a mini-series though.
Whether the history is right or wrong, I suppose if they get people to watch a show about WWI they have accomplished something!

They also showed Patton riding on the back of a tank that looked to modern to have been WWI vintage.
I like it and will watch all 3 episodes, but so far I have not been all that impressed with it. They seem to leave a lot of what I consider pertinent information out. Also it is kind of hard to keep up with it as they skip around a lot on the timelines.

I watched it. I noticed the weapon mix ups, too - got a laugh out of some of that. They had all kinds of equipment mix ups- you'll see a lot of American GI's carrying British canteens, for example. In addition to the rifle mix ups, they show American GI's using British Bren guns in a few places, too. They show Patton riding on the back of a WW2 light tank in WW1 era scenes. I can overlook that- I seriously doubt there are any WW1 vintage tanks that run available for movie making. Historically, I thought the whole show was 'iffy'- according to them, the 'blitz' of London took place before the Battle of Britain - nuh uh. The London 'blitz' was the bombing of London by night, after the Germans had been repulsed in their daylight bombing campaign.

All in all it really wasn't all that great, which makes it worse coming from "THE HISTORY CHANNEL". You would have thought, coming from them, that they would have striven for a little more accuracy. The most ridiculous thing however was showing an American Aegis cruiser being portrayed as a Japanese WW2 warship. Shame on you "HISTORY CHANNEL". The "VIKINGS" was a lot better.

"All in all it really wasn't all that great.." I have to agree. They used a lot of stock footage, much of it the wrong stock footage- they kept referring to Luftwaffe (German) bombers, and showing stock footage of B-17's. In addition to all the factual errors mentioned above. I think it was done on the cheap.
