I'm going to guess the International 22...that you probably didn't even shoot yet... You're wrong on that one on many counts. First that rifle is worth a lot more than 450.00 and I did not trade it. Second, I have shot it a lot. You're slipping in your ability to be all seeing and all knowing these days. Don't worry though, that happens to any guy that gets married. It's just kicking in a bit sooner on you.

Better not have been the Mountie that you made look so nice.
Then again I don't think it would be the Mountie.

Actually I just showed the double to the kid about 10 min ago. He just did his eagle scout project today and even though he has to go through the eagle board of review yet, I just couldn't stand it any longer. But....... He doesn't get to shoot it until he's official!! No Red I dumped the youth Henry rifle (22lr) that thing shoots like crap, it looks great but it ain't no marlin 39A or mounty.

Ah, If would have been drinking I could have guessed that!
Yeah, they have outgrown it. I hear the msrp on the henrys are going up 20-30% so you might have sold a little too early. But I think you stole that 97 !

Hey guys (read that as two moons)I have a question for you. If I'm not worried about collector value should I consider having the chamber lengthened and forcing cone extended to accommodate the modern shotgun shells of today? After researching the model 97 a bit most articles mention that the chamber in all the 97's are a little on the short size because they were done for the paper shells of yesteryear, as well as a shorter forcing cone. It is advised to shoot only light game loads out of a factory non modified gun, mostly as a way to reduce felt recoil that the modern shells with plastic wads will produce with the combination of the chamber length and forcing cone length. This makes sence to me but I thought I would get an opinion or two from here.

"Light game loads only", wow, where did you hear that good one There are thousands of turkey that get killed every year with a 97, my grandpa and dad have killed many with it. I'd go to walmart, buy the cheapest box of 2 3/4 Super X they have, and call it a day.

First measure the chamber and make sure it's short as many were lengthened already. If it is short send it in and I wil measure and make sure it's safe and then cut a long forcing cone 2 3/4" chamber in it for you at a special BIL discount price!

Ok guys I got a question for ya all and in the end I guess it don't matter but still the same I would appreciate your input/opinion. I'm thinking about sending in my 1897 and having it all re-blued except for the action, bolt and hammer. Those would be colored cased harden. I don't give a rats butt about value or lack there of, I just think it would look old school cool without looking pimped. Your opinions please.

I like the idea if you're just talking about the receiver.
If you're talking about the barrel, I can't picture it looking right...I think I'd just start with the receiver and send the barrel in separately at a later time.

My old 97 was found to still be an exilent trap shooter last thursday, Sean thought it was a bit hard on his young sholder but he never missed with it while he used it.
