Yes I have done it for the Sharps in 45-110 and 45-70. I quit for two reasons. First I never found a paper patch load with modern powder that would go 5 consecutive shots with accuracy without cleaning and best accuracy was with a wipe every shot. Second I don't like the extra bore wear caused by the paper. A jacketed bullet wil wear a bore so that you lose finest accuracy in 5000 or so rounds and straight lead will last 30,000 rounds. Paper on the other hand is very abrasive and I have yet to see any old Sharps that was shot with PP that had a decent bore. I would guess that PP wears the bore even more than jacketed slugs.
But if you want to try I have templates for PP bullets in different calibers and it's not so hard to wet and roll them once you get the hang of it. I would usually do 50 or more in a couple hours while watching TV.

Two Moons I was into PPb' a little more then that. I did'nt do much with the 45 cal because I had over time, developed good loads for my 3 Trapdoors Also,I'm a woodland Huntwe, and increased velocity is not needed. Most of my work was with various 30 caliber cartridges. A lot of time with the 30/40 Krag with no success. Quite a bit of time with the 30 GI Carbine, with some success. But great success with the 30/30 Win '94. It seems that cartridge is ideal for PPB bullets. With jacketed bullets, 2300 FPS is the recommended top load. My Oehler told me that my best shooting load {1.5 inch},was with 170 Gr PPB. It also got me a "drop dead"ill at 60 yards, with less loss of meat then with my old standby; Hornaday Interlock ??. I too, heard a lot of talk about paper being more abrasive then copper, but never saw any of it in the hundreds of rounds that i have fired. Thanks for the respomce, Frank

Sorry Holy Black only in this camp. Abrasive is a relative term and the guns I was shooting were all older or softer steel than modern guns. You really need to hit Cast Boolits forum as we have a lot of paper patchers on there.
