I picked up a batch of guns for the shop and in the mix were a coupe of Old Remingtons in New condition. I got a 512 P and a 550-1 both about 100%. The 512 had the peep sight removed and a 3/4" Weaver mounted and the 550-1 was iron sights like new in the box. Niether one of these will make it to the shop. I will hate to dump my 87A but the Remington is a much nicer rifle. I scoped and sighted in the 550 today and will see what I can do with the 512 tomorrow.

The 512 is a great gun. I picked one up about 8 years ago that was like new with just a couple small handling marks on it. Mostly from transporting it in a trunk along with about 50 other .22's so it could be sold. Seems the previous owner collected Rem .22's in high condition and his son became a drug addict and was stealing them from his father to buy drugs until his dad found out and brought all he had left and sold them to stop it. This 512 is my pride and joy. It is what I first started to learn to shoot at the age of 4 with. Between then and 9 my sister and I shot it so much that we wore it out and dad took it and traded it for a Rem 572. I have one of those also. ;D Two of my most favorite rifles. Still will out shoot or shoot with some of my target .22's.

This 512 ia a 1947 made and is 90% or better with 100% blue and a nice clear Weaver scope in side mount. The grandsson is drooling already.
DD you need to come in because I am having in and out every day right now I do have a nice Winchester 37 410 on the rack, but that could change by noon.

Is the 37 a pigtail red letter. If it is I will most likely take it. Let me know what you want for it if it is a pigtail.

It is marked Model 37 Steel built 3" chamber, I am NOT a Winchester collector so I will have to look it up... but I promised a fellow here in town first shot at the gun show tomorrow so I will let you know.

The pigtail is where they folded the opening lever on top over from round stock. The newer red labels have a solid lever or break open thing.
Since it is a 3 inch chamber it is most likely not a pigtail. I am out jimh was first any way.

The only red letter on this one is the for sale sign and it is a later one I checked the book. There is smoe damage to the stock on the left side where it looks like it banged up with other guns in a pile at some point. As to the price i am debating that right now. A NEF new will cost $198 delivered to the shop and this is a better gun than an NEF so I am up in the air. I will do some more research today.

We have a flea market called strawtown, Because you guessed it it is in strawtown IN,.
I went with dad and there are always some knife sellers and a few guys selling guns/ammo mainly older retired guys and talking about stuff. The eating area has a pocket traders like setting. A couple of gun show dealers show up when the best weeks happen. One old guy had a stevens crackshot, and a 10-22 a mossburg 20 and a single shot shotgun. The shotgun had a price tags of 700 dollars.
I asked to pick it up as it was real nice and I was being polite. He said you know what that is? "I said yes the is a winchester model 37 410 red label pigtail. " He said maybe 1000 people had seen that gun on the table since he decieded to sell it and less than a dozen had picked it up (Not many 700 dollar single shot shotguns are sold at flea markets) And I was the only one who knew it was a pigtail and the only one to ask to pick it up.
It had nice walnut and was one of the best old 37's I had seen. It was his grandfathers. He told me that he had bought a model 42 pump to use for hunting. We talked a bit, Dad now owns the model 42. He had an old denver redfield scope with the TV look in 4 power and I bought it. Now that gun was taken care of but it has it battle scars. I think he still has the pigtail. I wish I did.
