Maybe a silver lineing to all this as people get tired of paying for nothing? Deer never was worth what some were paying anyway. But if they come home with nothing to brag about likely they will stop paying. yes, that! not to mention some of the farmers up in northern Missouri are upset because the people leasing their land wont shoot a doe for fear of missing out of that big buck that was just about to come into their area so the crop damage is really bad because these hunters aren't shooting enough deer to do damage control. heck all they have to do is let me and my sons come up there and we'll thin that herd for them no questions asked. ;D we love to shoot does!

Been a little busy this deer season so I haven't got pictures downloaded till now. This year because of the huge losses from EHD it has been back to hunting hard instead of shooting deer. I've been averaging seeing maybe 10 deer a day of those maybe 3-4 bucks....Josh did manage to shoot an archery 3X5 on his birthday, two days before season in the high country. I did shoot a buck with my new pistol and did take my Rez buck over east by what we call the "Sun-dance grounds". Allie still hasn't got anything in range for her new .243 to shoot. We are NOT shooting Flattops!!! Unfortunately I have seen a lot of out-of-towners that have fawns strapped in/on their vehicles..... These are orphans that lost mom to EHD and don't know to hide. They are being slaughtered!!!! They (the hunters) in their quest to get a deer, any deer, killed next years & the years to comes deer crop, IMHO....... At any rate three days of the rifle season "madness" to go and we are still trying to fill our permits with "decent" bucks.

I meant the picture won't copy not that the deer is to big..... At any rate Josh went home today sick. He will be back next week to bow hunt again. He can't remember having a rifle season where he saw LESS deer than this one.... After Tuesday it was like someone shut off the rut again. The weather warmed up and the deer quit moving. I'm going to take Allie out again tomorow but don't have high hopes!! But you can't shoot a deer while in the house soooo we'll hunt!!! Jesse bought a new to him house, so I don't know if he'll be back tomorow or will work on the house and bow hunt later too.

2012 rifle season is over !!!!! Allie had the 3X3 in her scope six differant times and decided NOT to shoot..... Her choice not mine.... She has sit around and listened to us talk about EDH losses and decided to do her part to help the cause.
We all have MLing season to go yet so we'll see.....
We filled two out of five permits this rifle season...... YUP THE DEER NUMBERS ARE DOWN !!!!

Good for Allie! I think, often the mark of a real hunter is when they choose NOT to shoot.

Deer harvest drops
World-Herald News Service
More Sharing ServicesShareShare on twitterShare on email
Preliminary reports reveal that 40,301 deer were harvested during the Nov. 10-18 firearm season, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. That is a decline of 27 percent from the 2011 record firearm season harvest of 55,400.
In addition to large numbers of deer lost to epizootic hemorrhagic disease, deer populations, permit sales and hunting success were impacted by a record drought and the elimination of Earn-A-Buck rules in some management units, where a doe had to be checked in before or at the same time as a buck.
Harvest by region, compared to 2011, was as follows:
Northeast: 8,040 deer (down 43 percent), Panhandle/Northwest: 5,505 deer (down 15 percent), Southeast: 10,870 deer (down 34 percent), Southwest: 15,886 deer (down 14 percent).

FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER :
Less Than Half As Many Deer Taken
Posted: Tuesday, November 27, 2012 1:42 pm
If it seemed like half as many deer were harvested in the Creighton area during rifle season, that would be accurate.
According to Kit Hams, Big Game Program Manager with Nebraska Game and Parks, the Creighton check-in station saw 51 percent less deer during the Nov. 10-18 firearm season as compared to 2011.
The entire Northeast area was down 43 percent with 8,040 deer, which was the largest decline in the state. The Panhandle/Northwest was down 15 percent, southeast was down 34 percent and southwest was down 14 percent.
Hams said Creighton had 604 deer checked in, compared to 1,217 last year. The Niobrara check-in station also recorded a significantly lower number, down 54 percent with 441 deer. Neligh wasn’t down quite as much with just a 36 percent decrease. Norfolk’s deer declined 49 percent.
“We attribute the decrease to several factors,” Hams said. “Some could be from EHD (epizootic hemorrhagic disease), but it could also be from not having Earn-A-Buck, where you have to check in a doe before getting a buck.”
Tim Williams, a conservation officer from Neligh, said deer harvested wasn’t the only decrease he saw this year. There were also fewer complaints of trespassing, night hunting and shooting from the road.
“The number of complains received were down significantly from past years. I don’t know if hunters gave up or there weren’t as many hunting in year’s past, but I did not receive as many complaints,” he said.
Williams said the Game and Parks is inviting hunters and landowners to attend a public informational meeting to discuss deer issues.
Game and Parks biologists will explain and take questions on a number of topics, including deer management, deer damage and depredation permits, antlerless harvest, trophy management and diseases. Antelope and elk issues also may be discussed.
A meeting will be at Northeast Community College’s Lifelong Learning Center on Dec. 6 and in O’Neill on Dec. 11 at Cubby’s. Both meetings will be at 7 p.m.
