I've been looking @ them since I got the .243 cheap @ Cabela's...2M's is gonna build me a 32-40 in an Octagon pistol barrel soon I hope... I see and maybe we talked about it but S&W bought TC and moved the factory. I'm told that the TC custom shop will NEVER open..... Seems like a waste to me.

They are a nice way to have many guns using switch barrels. There are a lot of aftermarket barrel makers that can provide whatever you want. A couple are E Arthur Brown company, Bullberry Barrel works, and I can't remember the name of that Jones that has built so many wildcats for the TC Base(he developed the 300 whisper). He even built a wildcat for the contender and took it to africa. My point is not having the Custom Shop, need not be that much of a hinderance.

MGM or match grade machine took the sales away from the TC custom shop. I would call them the maker of choice as far as quality for the price on the T/C side. Back when i started with contender pistol lenght 14 inch barrels were under 135 dollars and the rifle ones were under 200. At that time they did not make the encore.
I would no longer recommend fred at bull berry as it seems he was either overwhelmed or semi retired and it is going to take 6-12 months for a barrel unless he has already has one made. I have 2 of his barrels from the 90's and his 22 match rimfire barrel is a finely made. My last barrel was not nearly as wel made and it went down the road.
JD jones and the 375 JDJ was the african round and it was in a contender which is a lower pressure gun.
Have twomoons do a little trigger work on that encore frame. The old gen 1 contenders are the ones with the sweet triggers. You get spoiled on tc contender gen one triggers. Those will not be made anymore with the current lawyer friendly court system.
If I might make a round recomendation, in a pistol the 7-30 waters round rocks from deer to groundhogs. A 30-30 necked down to 7 mm. Nothing wrong with a 243 either but it is an experts gun on deer. Even I can handload and make 7-30 brass from 30-30 so anyone can do it. The 7mm round give you lots more in the way of light or heavy for caliber choices also. Contenders and encores do best with rimmed rounds.

Caliber does not really matter when you can change just by switching a barrel.
I have friends in Indiana that swear by the 243 in a pistol for deer but most of them shoot average or light for caliber bullets. 243 is a good compromise with deer and small varmints. No real need to compromise here. Personaly I like the 222 or 22 hornet in my contender for chucks and for deer practice i often use 35 rem. When i hit a hog with the 35 rem you can feel the bones shake when you pick it up.
32-40 might be a fun one. I had a colt special army pistol in 32-30 once and since it has twice the capacity of powder it might work well on deer.
With the encore you can go up to any power you want a barrel for. My contenders top out around the 45-70, 35 rem, 7-30 waters area. I personally don't like more powerful pistols than that. Other may differ on that for sure. A friend of mine does 270 in a 16 inch contender for deer in Indiana.
The 35 rem and the 7-30 waters are far better that the ballistics charts would indicate.

I am almost certian the twist is 1 in 10 in the 15 inch encore factory barrel.
I know that the 7-30 is 1 in 9
35 rem is 1 in 14
44 mag 1 in 20
MGM will special twist rate stuff so does fred at bullberry.

I would really like to see that one go off at dusk. I predict a 5 foot fire ball at the end of the barrel. That will make a god deer gun out west if you want to go long.
