guys what about the front site? like i said it looks to be either some sort of ivory, but it has a bit of a translucent look to it which makes me think it could be whale bone or something.

A quick test for Ivory knife handles my dad taught me is to heat a pin to glowing red, Touch the item in a place that no one can see it. If it smells like burning hair then it is most likely ivory. Bone and plastic smell much different but ivory smells like burning hair.
I have seen him buy several forks and knife sets and remove one handle on the set to test if it was ivory in this manner. We also tested a few knives we thought were Rino horn and they proved to be so weird type of plastic made to look like horn. These were fakes made to look old. Did not take to long to figure it out once it smelled like a burnt capacitor.

Indian Chief That had ben seting in a shed for the last 50 + years brought $15,450.00 Not saying on the civil war rifle cause I brought it home lol. Yes it came with the bayonett. A rifle like this one is the reasion I as a 3 or 4 year old fell in love with old muzzel loaders. My Aunt & Uncle had one in their old warsh house & tool shead Hanging from wire from the celling with a bunch of old lath, theirs was an 1863 I use to spend a lot of time just stairing up at it and wishing, I never got that one but now I have one I can stair up at again lol.

Thanks, will have to see if I can get it in front of T/M's camera? He may be willing as I don't think he has to work on this gun at all, least it don't look that way? I had to look up some of the writeing on the lock, This was a Contract only for the state of Massachusetts, by S.Norris and W.T.Clement. 1863-64 in Springfield Mass. The gun seems to be in excelent shape, it even had a cork in the muzzel I think I'm happy to have it.

If I remember right a lot of those Noris/Clement guns never were issued and due to that when found can be in excellent condition. Good find Bounce. I had one last year and if I remember right it was in about 85% condition.

I'm thinking mine is in as good condition as I have ever seen yet in 60 years of wanting one like this one so I'm happy. Plan to take it to the camp memorial week end & try it.

I was just looking for a .58 cal hollow based mini ball mould that I just bought I think this last winter at Bloofield gun show and had almost forgoten about and was no longer shure I had even bought it LOL. One of theise are quite expencive if you order one and I did not have a use for one when I bought it for $5 lol. sometimes I'm amaised how things work out. Will need to use handels off another one as I just bought the mould only at the time....I think? LOL.
Thanks again T/M's Darrels mould will now go to good use.

You sound like me, I think I have something and don't and forget I have something that I do. Four years ago I have a Bushnell Holo sight, actually had two at the time. I remember I sold one but will be damned if I can remember where I put the other one when I moved. ;D

I've been known to do the same kind of thing, but, I gotta tell you, it can be dangerous. Here's how it goes: you see a deal on a set of dies, or a bullet mould for a caliber you don't have a firearm in, but it's too good a deal to pass up. So, for a few bucks you buy. Then, at a later date, you see a firearm you really don't need, but, you say to yourself "Hey, I got dies for that". . . . . and you know what happens.
