ok for the most part when the scouts camp it is in tents and we abide by the kid-led -patrol concept. meaning that the kids pretty much do everything. however every year in Feb we do the "Cabin Campout". this is our weekend of giving thanks to the kids for participating in scouts, this weekend we stay in a large cabin equipt with 2 wood burning stoves, and we as the adult leaders do all the cooking and what not. it is a weakened of fun and we invite the soon to cross over scouts and their dads to join us. this years camp out was no letdown even with less then desirable conditions, ok so one new to be boy scout ended up in the ER, that could happen to anyone. point is, for some of these kids, they finally got a glimps of what is like to be a Scout! PS it was only 8 stitches and it was all his own fault!

A real Boy Scout would have stitched up his own arm, wrapped the wound in duct tape, and finished the weekend.
He'd get both the 1st aid and sewing badge ;D

ok off topic a bit but actualy on topic in regards to camping. I found a guy listing true military modular sleep systems, (4 piece) for 95.00 a piece delivered. then I see he is in St Louis, so I asked him about a home town discount because there's no shipping involved. so I can buy one for 75.00 or 5 for 70.00 or 10 or more for 65.00 a piece. I sent out a email to all the scouts to see if we could get a order together. I'm buying one regardless of what others do. was just wondering what you guys thout of the price if you're formillar with these bags.

I've never used one, but, I know a guy who was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, and he loved that set up. The price looks great, from what I can tell by a short poke around the internet. Looks like a mighty warm set up, but on the heavy side for backpacking.

i really like the idea of the waterproof bivey cover. bring that along with a light sleeping bag and when you stay dry you stay warm. the kids do well with the average weather but get an all day and night soaking and even good tents will get wet inside. once the sleeping bag gets wet it's all over for the kids. (most adults too). but yes i did note to these folks, this is not a lt wt back packing set up. the whole assembly with cary bag is around 11lb as i recall. but one bag and the bivey cover wouldn't be too bad.
