The Derringer you have is a JUKAR (JUNKER) made in Spain and may be marked CVA. They are not too bad a gun for a derringer since accuracy is not a question here. As to your problem... #1 make sure the hammer is hitting the nipple square, if you have to you can cold bend the hammer a LITTLE.
#2 If it is hitting square you want to check the main spring, take the lock off the gun ans see that the spring works free. If the spring feels too light it may have to be replaced. Put some lipstick on the spring and put it back in the lock mortise and work it so you caqn see if it is dragging in the mortise.
#3 IF the spring is too weak you can do a temporary fix by putting a small wedge in the crook of the spring to stiffen it up. New springs may be available from Track of the Wolf. Unless you are really adept don't try and re harden it yourself, this is kind of tricky.
#4 If all else fails send it to me and I will send it back shooting.

I will check #1 when I get a chance, I am honestly not sure. I think #2 is fine, it seems to work free of obstruction and fall with what I think is a decent amount of force, but how would I know other than eyeball? I may take you up on #4

Take the lock off the gun, are there drag maks on the lock, if no lipstick up the spring, re install and cock and uncock, are there marks on the wood? By the way how is the nipple, if it is flattened that may a problem too the nipple shoud not look like a mushroom but a post.

I just got home and tried a cap, I managed to make the cap fire by holding the hammer back and extra bit and holding the trigger to release (effectively "fanning" it). It's as if the hammer should lock into place a centimeter or less back fro where it is. It's not traveling enough to strike with enough force. Given who I think assembled it 30 years ago maybe it's assembly error.
I will try the lipstick method to look for interference inside the pistol. I will take it apart again and look more closely as well, but it looked clear when i did it the other day.
Are there total disassembly instructions somewhere or should I pack it up and send it?

Ok some oil marks on the wood, from when I lubed it, so i sanded those to try and clear obstructions but I am still puzzled by the hammer lock position.

Half cock, full cock anf then pull the trigger. The hammer should not fall when on 1/2 cock.

I meant whether or not full cock was something that was not working the way it should be Someone else suggested the spring may be too weak being the cause of that symptom. What would you suggest I use as a temp wedge for the spring? At least I am learning about the innards, which is neat.

Just tap a piece of popsicle stick into the v of the spring and try it. If it goes bang reliably then you either need a new spring or a re temper job.

Might have to email him. I don't think he checks in too often
