$22 a pound, now I know why all the politicians were eating it on the news this last week, forgot the state but both parties would turn out each year for a big feed of it, looked cooked on board like singles standing on each side of a metal hog troth filled with coals. Bounce: I am willing to bet what you are referring to is the annual Waverly, Virginia shad planking. And yes, it definitely is a political event which is probably the most notable (if not the biggest) by-partisan affair of the season for current or aspiring politicians. It's expensive and, if I'm not mistaken, is essentially by invitation only. I understand though that the food (if not the companionship) is pretty good - that is if you like planked shad (and I do).
