ok, i picked up another David Farmer knife and should have it in a week or so. it is 1095 carbon steel, 3" drop point, it is not a work of art as compared to other knives but as far as it's intended use i will be very happy. after useing that one i bought for my son on his doe back in jan i thought to myself if i run across another one at a good price i will pick it up. well i stumbled onto one yesterday for 45.00 shipped and said what the heck.

Is David Farmer a local maker ? I have not heard of him before.
The Indy 1500 is this weekend and ON sunday I will be walking the isles between the black rifles and the ammo cans looking for the little table were I got the fillet knive from last year.

Cool Site, looks like very practical carry knives. I particularily like the fact that he offers several 3 3/8" blades. It's as if he read Iowa Code which considers a blade of 3 1/2" or longer a weapon, and could get one in trouble for carrying a concealed weapon?

well the knife arived yesterday. i must admit though this one does not seem as sharp as the first one. also it seemed a tad unfinished on the face of the blade. i'm thinking one of two things. first, the guy said it was new and maybe it was not. (this was sold by a previous owner, not David Farmer himself) second, after contacting DF himself i am under the impression this is one of his older knifes and perhaps he was not putting as much attention to the finish as he is now. either way i'm sending it in to him for a once over. we'll see how that goes. don't get me wrong the knife was sharp, but it just wasn't to the same high level of finish the other one was. i like the idea that DF will take care of his product no questions asked. and i did explain to him where i bought it.

I bought a David Farmer knife... thanks to you and your postings here. Mine is a small one too and I like it. While it was shaving sharp when I got it... I used the Lansky on it and got it even sharper. I don;t LOVE the sheath on mine. I don't trust it on my belt, and it even comes out of it in my fanny pack if I am not careful.
I'd buy another David Farmer though.

I While it was shaving sharp when I got it... I used the Lansky on it and got it even sharper. Jabba Jabba, these knives have a convex edge on them. you do not want to sharpen them the convential way with a hard stone at a particular angle. you use a mouse pad with a sht of 320 wet/dry paper glued to it (use spray adhesive) then draw the knife backwards (stropping type direction) with only the edge down against the pad/emery paper. the convex shape of the blade will depress the pad and the abraisive will follow the shape of the convex edge. i hope this explains it. you can then got to an even finer sheet for a more polished/mirror look or finish.
