Good job. Gila... I think the parent, or other adults, are the determining factor as to when a kid is ready to hunt. A knowledgable adult, with the desire and time to devote to working with a child, can prepare them at a pretty young age. On the other hand you can't just drag the average kid out of his first grade classroom, give him a gun, and expect him to be a safe and competent hunter.

and a Vernier sight. It's marked up to twelve-hundred yards. This one shoots a mite further.

Kool, so how old are they now? Should have done it all by 10? Them some wonderfull pictures of two awesome men their Gila. Congratulations to them and you as a dad. The oldest one just turned 29 and the youngest is 26. They've shot a lot of animals at this stage in the game. Talked to my oldest son on the phone and he told me he took his first non-typical muley this year. Waiting for a picture to check it out. He said had at least 35 scorable points. Both boys have hunted all over the western US as well as Canada. Both work as hunting guides during the Fall and Winter. They are working cowboys otherwise. The oldest one is the ranch foreman for one of the Indial Reservations. Nope, he didn't get the non-typical on Indian land, but on National Forest land. The oldest son has taken at least ten bears that I know of and maybe more at this point. This was his first bear at age 15 (no dogs and no bait). Here's a couple of pictures of the boys as teens with some really nice muleys. Both of them with Quebec-Labrador Caribou. They both have a fair number of SCI record book entries and both have listings in the B&C record book as well.

This kid is the 10th grandson of Davy Crockett. Give me a break, name one person in the lower midwest that doesn't claim to be related to either Davy Crockett or Jesse James

Which one are you related to, Red? ;D ;DYou never know. There is a lot of territory from Tennessee to Washington DC, back to Tennessee, then on to Texas. He would certainly have had the opportunity to spread his genes... ;D ;D

Those mountain communities were pretty insular, too- just a few families marrying back and forth (coughs) There are tons of family legends that are, shall we say, unsupportable with facts. I think I'd best leave where this is heading alone.....
