Well, just completed my hunt north of London. I dropped this European Red Stag on opening morning and the Reeves Muntjac buck the following morning. The Red Stag scores 303 1/8 SCI and the Muntjac scores 17 14/16 SCI.

Thanks Donnie! This hunt was free and wild in no preserve or any enclosures of any kind. I borrowed a nice little Sauer 202 Mannlicher chambered for 308Win. I used the same rifle with Sierra 165g Game Kings on both animals. The stag absorbed three shots into the boiler room at about 150 yards to put him down the Muntjack was shot at a run at just a tad over 300 yards. the bullet just went strait through it and he dropped like a hot potato. Didn't screw up the cape or anything in the process. I got extremely lucky on this hunt. Free ranging stags of this caliber are few and far between. This was the first mature stag I saw. Muntjacs seldom venture into the open during daylight hours and are extremely hard to hunt. I got really lucky when this guy chased a doe thorugh a small clearing. I had just enough time to lift the rifle and squeeze the trigger. I got lucky that he came out, I got lucky and actually hit the little bugger, and I also got lucky enough that he will make top 10 SCI book. It was just one of those hunts when luck was on my side for a change.

Totally awsome. And you got that in ENGLAND Hard to belive Gila. Good job. Oh, England has some great trophies, but you need to be selective where you hunt. The minerals are only available that produce the larger antlers in certain parts of the country. If I were to venture much farther north than were we were hunting, the stags would have produced much smaller antlers due to lack of minerals in the food. That is how it was explained to me.

Wow! Btw, that "Reeves Muntjac" is very very similar with our local "Muntiacus Muntjac" (or named with "barking deer" in some catalogs...I think because this deer has a sound like a dog when barking). That's what I called with "small deer" (or "kijang") before in this forum. This deer is plenty overhere. I can get 1 to 7 for a night hunt, depends on the locations and the method of hunt (by jeep/spotlighting, or stalking, or tree stand). Our local "Rusa" ("Sambar deer", or "Menjangan") is as big as the "European Red Stag" shown above, but only has 4 pointers. It's interesting to see another "muntjac deer" from England!

These little deer are also called barking deer by the locals. I had the opportunity to have them barking at me many times. When one starts barking, many times it just keeps on barking for quite a lengthy time. I have hunted Sambar in Victoria, Australia. They were imported there long ago from your part ofthe world. A fabulous animal to hunt that can be quite sneaky. they will make an alarming sound at you many times. I would love to see a picture of one of your Muntiacus Muntjac.
