I don't know if they could survive in Nebraska. Keep in mind that they have thin, bristly hair rather than fur and not a lot of hair on their undersides. I have seen them "dog pile" on cold freezing nights here in the mountain areas sharing each others body heat. Another thing to consider is that although our nights do get cold in the winter and we do get snow, on occassion, the days are not to bad and most snow is gone by 10AM or earlier.

I believe it will, if the shot placement was good and if the shooter was, maybe, within 50 yards. We are not allowed to hunt them with a .17HMR yet, but we are allowed to use a 22Mag. I have killed one with my Anschutz 1518M, she ran about 30 yards or so and fell over dead.

I have come to belive if a .22 mag will do it a .17HMR will do it better, But on a pig I'm not so shure that would be true? shure would be interesting to find out though. I'm shure it would make no differance if between the eyes as any good thump will kill a hog their unless wild ones are differant. but the little .17 pill would have more lard & meat to penitrate would seam as it was fragmeting to reach the vitals than most game we use it on??

bounce - These little creatures are not built like a "true hog" as they do not have all the fat and muscle tissue that a wild boar does and for sure not the muscular built up in the shoulder area. A 22 Mag and/or .17HMR in my opinon is more than adequate to get the job done.
