Two things were giveme's on this gun KLSM54
As far as I can remember the 37A's didn't have this type of buttplate And
Hard to do if its stamped on the barrel. What thru me on your info was the fact that they made the 37A in 28 gauge. I learned something too from your investigation. ;D

Model 37 mfg 1936-63 100% 12ga. $295, 16ga 250, 20ga 325,28ga $1650, ,410ga $375 a 28ga. in 60% condition is $350, If truly NIB add $125 to $175. add 20% for Red letters models, add 15% for 32" barrel. most 28 ga. have the "Red Letter". Price as I stated before for the 37A is the same for a 37A ,410ga you add 75%

bill, your description is the lever of which i speak, the one with the tear shaped hole. when i said forged i was refering to the fact that it looked like you took a piece of iron, heated it up and bent it over. that is the one i had, and payed 75.00 for and wished like hell i had back. that being said i somewhat ruined mine by having it turned into a meat shoot gun. heck i ran the forcing cone out, had the trigger pull tweaked and had it tapped for screw-in chokes. oh yea it had been tapped for a scope mount too. won it's share of meat and cash. got hooked up with a guy that did wood at the browning factory in arnold, MO and he redid the stock on it. it sure was a head turner at the meat shoots, back then everyone was shooting 97's.

I know who you mean if Art is who your talking about and he does some very nice work. Don Goins also used the Mod 37 for a meat gun. Differance was he would cut the barrels back and then thread the end and then take another barrel and cut it forward and then turn threads inside of it and thread it onto the existing barrel and then turn it down to match. He then would backbore it and open the forcing cones and also lengthen the forcing cone at the muzzle along with changing the angle. We use to talk for hrs about the merits of the mod 37 and what he was doing to them. I forget the # of pellets he could put on a card at 40?? some yards. He also mounted scopes on them. The 37's could have the triggers tweeked till they were awsome due to the design of the strikker.
Also Bounce, If you keep using that blue book to buy guns by you will get burnt someday. Badly too. Some of the guns you like to buy I have found the book to fall way short of or way over what it actually should be. :-)

got a guy wanting to sell this one, it is a little rough and while it is an early issue as you can see it is not a pigtail but does have the small hammer. i would say this one came out the second year or so. comments on price/worth?

bill we think alike, he would let me have it for 120.00 but i gotta get a ffl to handle the out of state transfer so i'd be into it for 150.00 and it is in too used of a state for what i'm looking for. not to mention i'm looking for another pigtail redletter.
