In baseball, there are a couple close races for division championships, or wild card spots in the playoffs, going on. Boston is 1/2 game ahead of the Yankees in the AL East. In the AL West, Los Angeles is 1 1/2 games ahead of Oakland. Anyone follow the pennant races?

The Yankees took a 1 game lead last nite. That race is gonna be interesting, because both teams trail in the standings for a wildcard slot, so, probably, if your team doesn't win the AL East outright, they go home. Cleveland leads in the standings for the wild card slot. The AL Central race is tightening up, too, with the Chicago White Sox 1 1/2 games ahead of Cleveland.

Update: The last pennant undecided is the AL East- the Chicago White Sox clinched last nite. The Yankees have a 1 game lead on the Red Sox. And, there is a 3 game series coming up in Fenway Park- Yankees at Red Sox. Should get interesting. In the wild card races, Boston and Cleveland are tied for the AL wild card- makes it quite conceivable that if the Red Sox don't win that 3 game series, they stay home this post season. The NL wild card race is close to over: Houston has a 2 game lead on Philly.

You couldn't write a better script. Even if you aren't an American League fan, even if you dislike both the BoSox and Yankees, this is still sports drama at it's best. A three game series between two old time franchises, in one of baseballs most storied venues, for all the marbles.... ;D....I love it! Now, if we can just make this thing continue through Sunday...at least....some sort of play-off would even be better.... ..Stay tuned folks....don't touch that dial... ;D

I don't know, but I'm going to put my money on a Cards / Yanks World Series.
I would kill for a cards / white sox series becuase the white sox are the worst of the AL playoff teams.

All the races have been decided. The Yankees won the AL East, Boston is the wild card team. In the NL, the wild card race was won by Houston. The playoffs start tomorrow (Tuesday).

You know, these wild card teams are going to cause some problems for the rest of the teams. Personally, I'd rather face philly or cleveland.

That could very well be, Red- a lot of experts are saying that Houston particularly can be tough in a short series- like a playoff.

Houston's pitching is gonna be tough. If they can hit, they'll cause trouble.
I am going to root for them (sorry Red) they deserve a series win. Or at least a trip to the series, the poor bastards have never even played in a World Series.
I like the wild cards. Good year for an all wild card series. Only problem is, I don't think Boston can hold of the Yanks 2 years in a row. It should provide us with some great baseball though.

I agree, KLSM, and I like the wild card, too- witness the 2 teams in the AL East- the Yankees and the Red Sox. If there were no wild card, one of those teams would not play in the postseason.....

If the cards make the world series and they have a chance to win, I'm calling in sick for games 5,6,7. I need a new job anyway...

Hello Red,
If the Cards do a repeat of last year you won't have to phone in sick for games 5, 6, and 7. They won't be around this year either. Boy, was that ever a let down last year.
When I was a kid my favorite players were active at the same time, Stan Musial of the Cardinals and Ted Williams of the Red Sox. Now, all these years later I still root for those two teams. Allegiances can last a long time I guess. Best wishes.

Oh well, 1 Wild Card gone. Hope the RedSox aren't starting another llooooonnnggg dry spell.
Speaking of which, the White Sox have their own dry spell. Something like 1917 since they won. They deserve a shot, they've certainly paid their dues.
