The last time I patterned both my guns - a Rem. Model 1100 Magnum & a Mossberg Ultimag - for turkey loads I found the Federal Premiums produced sligthly better patterns than anything else I tried. Admittedly, I didn't try as many different brands and shot sizes as Gila, but I did try everything carried by the local Wally World. I settled on the Federal Premium #5 in 3" for my Remington and the same load in 3-1/2" for my Mossberg. I got a bird with the Ultimag at approximately 60 yds., though I didn't realize it was quite that far when I took the shot. He went down like a rock.

and a Vernier sight. It's marked up to twelve-hundred yards. This one shoots a mite further.

Strangely enough, my Mossberg likes the Winchester XX Tyrkey loads better... You never know until you check.

Strangely enough, my Mossberg likes the Winchester XX Tyrkey loads better... You never know until you check. in all the shotguns i've pattern for turkey hunting i've yet to have a gun that didn't shoot the winchesters better than remington or federal. but as you said it don't matter because each shotgun (even same make and model) will shoot differantly and ya have to try them all first. so far though i've been lucky with haveing to buy just one brand shell. also when thois bunch of ammo is gone i'll have to re-test as i am sure they all have tweeked their shells over thel ast couple years.

My Mossberg 500 turkey gun loves those Winchester #5 turkey loads. It shoots the Federal #6 load well, too, but not as well as the Winchester. But, you gotta pattern to find out. Heck, I'm not so sure if it's the gun, or the choke tube that matters, too- change tubes, it might change the gun's preference ( I think it will).

Gila:
I'm using the XTRA FULL TURKEY choke tube in my Ultimag that came with the 24" accessory barrel I bought. When I was patterning my gun I borrowed a couple of third party choke tubes from friends to try in my gun. I don't recall the brands now. They patterned a little bit better than the Mossberg tube, but not enough to justify buying one. If memory serves me, my shoulder was starting to get awful sore by the time I finally settled on the Federals. Like you, I didn't find a huge difference in anything I tried. All would have easily killed a bird at 40 yds.
