Do they make it? I think so... and what is the real effective range that I'll be able to kill those pesky Grackles at my house?

jabba i have seen the cci shot shells for a .22mag in the past so i assume they're still around. your pattern would be helped along alot if you had an old smooth bore to shoot them out of. the rifleing in a normal barrel will have it spinning as it leaves the barrel which would aid in the pattern blowing early, so on that note buy some butcher paper and pattern them like you would your turkey gun and see how far you can shoot it.

Jabba: if you have a handgun chambered for 22 Mag it will do better than a rifle. Rifling does not get as much of a bite on the capsule in the shorter barrel, so the pattern won`t blow into a donut quite as quickly.

They still make the cci capsules with the blue lid. I think they even make the crimped rounds (I know they do in the 22lr) I've used them a little in the 22lr and wouldn't use them for birds over 15 feet in my pistol.
But I understand the 22mag countains probably 50-75% more shot.

years ago i went to a few .22lr bird shot turkey shoots. you could use our own rifle if you wanted. well everyone was shooting about the same until this guy came up and shot his rifle. wow did he rip up his card. he had an old smooth bore and i mean to tell you it shot 3 times the pattern the rest of us where getting. he did smile as he walked out of there with his arms full of meat.

Well, I bought a few. I seriously doubt that it'd kill a bird at 15 yards. I'd have to be VERY lucky. Out of 175 pellets, I put 15 into an EXTRA LARGE pizza box at 7 yards. Hell the pattern is as big as a basketball at 6 FEET!! I guess these were a complete waste of my time and money.
Thanks fellas. I'll go back to the old pellet rife for the grackles.

Good pellet rifle with a scope will more than take care of the grackles Jabba. Plus it will keep your shooting eye in shape for hunting season too. Its the excuse I use. ;D

I've had a couple of gunsmiths tell me not to use the crimped variety of .22 shotshells in rifle barrels saying it would clog up in the grooves. I've shot the kind with the plastic cone over the shot in larger, centerfire sizes and haven't had a problem. I've also used them mostly in handguns.

I have a 800 FPS pellet rifle with a scope.
I killed 37 with it last year. I can hit them further than I can kill 'em.

Thats about as bad a mistake as buying & hunting with an inline muzzel loader. I am glad the sense of humor is intact. The last thing I want about that is hard feelings. ;D ;D Jabba

I don't know what would be funnier 1. seeing a guy shooting a bird at 15 yards with birdshot and then looking all retarded when he's wondering why they didn't work. or 2. seeing a clueless guy fireing a inline and getting 6 inch groups at 50 yards I'd call it a tie

If you can find some Aguila 22 Colibri cartridges for a 22 RF (not a magnum), they have no powder- the priming is the sole propellant. They'll kill birds and squirrels at close range, and they sound no louder than a pellet gun. If you use them in a rifle, check to make sure each ball exited the barrel before firing another one- they're so low powered they have been known to stick in a long rifle barrel.
